My sweet children are growing faster every day. There are so many precious parts of my days with them I don't want to forget. I keep meaning to make it a priority to capture these memories in some form. To take more pictures, more video, journal, or blog so that one day both they and I will be able to look back on these days and remember what it was like.
The thing is, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I keep meaning to start a blog to record things, but putting it off until I have the perfect blog name, a better camera, more time (ha!), etc. But the truth is we make time for what is important to us. And these days, this family of mine is most important to me. Even if if is not perfect, I'm going to create the space in my life to record and reflect.
Today my loving husband turns 31. He is the best person I know. I hope that some of him has rubbed off on me in the almost 12 years we've known each other. We celebrated his birthday yesterday since today is a Monday during Lent. It wouldn't have been much of a celebration had we waited. He requested homemade burgers, homemade fries, and a chocolate torte for his birthday dinner. I was more than happy to comply to his requests. He really doesn't ask for much in life. My mom joined us and it was all delicious. Don't tell him, but I'm about to finish off the rest of the torte while the kids are having quiet rest time. I'm 38 weeks pregnant, I feel no guilt ;)
Watching the big kids give him his presents is my favorite part of any celebration or holiday. The look in their eyes completely captures the essence of childhood. They had made him multiple handmade cards. Joy had used her allowance to purchase him chocolate espresso bars from Trader Joe's. She had tied them in red ribbons. Together we had purchased him a pipe. (Picture G.K. Chesterton, or J.R.R. Tolkein). Everything is so much more special when you have children to share in it with you.
Happy Birthday Brian! We couldn't survive without you! And we could never bar-b-que again because I don't know how to light it...
